BC Student Signs on with Up With People

Taariq Tucker

18-year old Bermuda College Liberal Arts student, Taariq Tucker is a first-year student, who is already distinguishing himself in the community through his love for the arts. At over six-feet tall, and easily above 230 pounds, this gentle giant is a quiet, sometimes shy young man who is easily likeable. He will readily admit that he "stumbled" into acting... at the right place at the right time, when a friend told him about auditions for the recent and popular TROIKA production. He successfully auditioned and was a pretty convincing, no-nonsense Corrections Officer in the production. Taariq also loves to sing..and with a little coaxing, the shyness quickly disappears and clear talent is evident in his maturing tenor voice. It is this other love that will see him trade the classrooms at Bermuda College for the classroom of the world for six months as he joins the Up with People group.
The group was recently in Bermuda, celebrating a milestone anniversary and re-connecting with many of its Bermuda alumni. Taariq once again successfully auditioned as a natural follow-on to the Troika production.

"Up with People" is a singing dancing and acting group that believes in uniting the community and promoting non-violence," he explained. "It has a great track record for promoting young people in the theatre arts.. and it promotes the ideals that I believe in."

Taariq leaves Bermuda December 30, and will travel to the mid-west for several weeks in training sessions, before heading out to Los Angeles, the Philippines and Mexico. He will be staying weeks at a time with host families and says he's looking forward to the experience. "Most of the places I've never even been before, so I'm kinda excited!"
